The National AIDS/STD Programme (NASP) is one of the wings of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW) responsible for coordinating with all stakeholders and development partners involved in HIV/AIDS programme activities throughout the country.
HIV/AIDS: Bangladesh Situation UNAIDS estimated that approximately 11,000 Bangladeshis were living with HIV at the end of 2006. While HIV prevalence rates are still relatively low, HIV infection rates are increasing, as indicated by a threefold increase in the last six years. HIV prevalence amongst the most vulnerable populations is still below 1% (.9%); however, injecting drug users (IDUs) in Central Bangladesh have far exceeded the 1% threshold, achieving the status of a "concentrated epidemic.' With the rapid spread of HIV amongst IDUs and continued risky behavior patterns amongst high-risk groups, Bangladesh is not far removed from a widespread and devastating epidemic. |

 "Leadership" has been chosen by the World AIDS Campaign as the theme for World AIDS Day 2007 and 2008. This theme will continue to be promoted with the slogan "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise". The World AIDS Campaign (WAC) emphasis from 2005-2010. On December 1 every year, the world comes together to commemorate World AIDS Day. |
